The 2nd Annual ASMA Awards Online Exhibition

I am pleased to have a painting included the 2nd Annual ASMA Awards Online Exhibition, put on by the American Society of Marine Artists.

Sailing Smooth Water

Sailing Smooth Water, 12x16", watercolour.  See a larger view by clicking the title.

This is an online ASMA members exhibition. There were over 500 paintings entered, for a total of 62 exhibition spaces. Each of the paintings in the exhibit is a very fine example of excellent marine art. It is a honour to have my work amongst such a fine show. Congratulations to the award winners. You can see their works paintings and the full exhibition here.

The painting I included is of the Thomas E. Lannon schooner, sailing out of Glouchester, MA.  I sketched this boat on location during Cape Ann Plein Air in October of 2024.

Here is the view from my easel, from October 2024.

It's relatively rare for me to be able to see a classic schooner under full sail like this one from such a close vantage point while on shore. I was delighted then to have the opportunity to observe her, and paint her as she tacked back and forth across the bay. I came home wanting to paint her again. I used the on location sketches I had made to paint my entry for the ASMA exhibition.
