The MillPond at Apalachicola is a harbour for working boats, mostly shrimp boats. These are not new and shiny boats. They are weathered and beaten with patches of rust and flaking paint. Yet, they are also constantly being maintained and worked upon. New paint every year, replacing boards when necessary, these are all parts of keeping a boat seaworthy.
I liked this view out along a dock. I could see a boat at rest, shining bright in the evening light. It was framed by the rusty hardware of the shrimping industry on the left and the bright new boards of a boat under reconstruction on the right. I felt like this tells a bit of the story of these boats.
