Poppy Balser painted this from the shore next to the Hubbards Sailing Club in Hubbards, NS.   The youth sailing program was on and the sailing dinghies were winding their way up and down along the shore.  Wisps of fog curling around the distant point were no deterrent to the sailors.

Balser says about this painting:

"I am especially pleased with how this one came out.  Watercolour is a perfect medium for showing the veils of fog that can transform our maritime environment.  I love how when the fog comes in it dramatizes the layers of distance between the near shore and the further points behind.  I was able to paint this as the boats were moving, it came together quickly.  I was able to portray the background quite simply and keep it as a backdrop, maintaining the focus on the boats themselves.  I feel this tells the tale of a pleasant morning on the water with a light breeze and good company.  I could hear the children in their boats hooting with enjoyment as they sailed their boats back and forth."
