Night Watch

Nighttime at the wharf is a time of lights reflecting as much from the water below as from above. The boats rest at their slips, tied up and awaiting the next voyage. Most nights it is fairly quiet but on the night before lobster season begins it is a busy spot.

Poppy Balser painted this in the studio after a night-time visit to the wharf on the evening before the Fall 2019 lobster season opened. The boats were fully loaded with gear and lit up brightly as the workers made their final preparations.

This is a watercolour on panel.  Designed to be varnished and waxed, it can be displayed in a frame without glass.
